On Wednesday 26th June 2024, H.E. Lisa Peterson, the Ambasador of the United States of America to Burundi paid a courtesy call to H.E Maj Gen (Rtd) Matayo Kyaligonza, the Dean of Ambassadors, and Uganda's Ambassador to Burundi.

The two discussed areas of mutual interest to both nations.

President Joe Biden nominated Ambassador Peterson on April 5, 2023 as Ambassador to Burundi, and she was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 2, 2024, and was sworn-in on May 28, 2024. Ambassador Peterson has since presented her Letter of Credence to His Excellency President Évariste Ndayishimiye.
