The Embassy of Uganda hosted the annual end of year party for Ugandans at the Public Gardens (Jardin Public) in Bujumbura.

The theme this year was "strength of family", and Ugandans were strongly encouraged to come along with their families. Children were occupied in games, bouncing castle and other fun activities.

Members of the Ugandan community introduced themselves to the wider community to lay the ground for networking and promoting inter-community support and cohesion. Uganda Embassy encouraged members to identify themselves as Ugandan, in a bid to counter any form of division along regional lines. As diaspora in Burundi, it is critical that both the host country views Ugandans as one people.

The Embassy of Uganda also took the opportunity to sensitize the Ugandan community on maintaining family values, as a key aspect of the fight against HIV AIDS. While taking cognizance of the World Aids Day to be commemorated tomorrow Sunday 1st December 2024, participants were encouraged to be faithful to their families, a message designed by the Embassy to fit in the event's context.

The First Secretary reminded the gathering on the inaugural Ministry of Foreign Affairs Diaspora Convention to be held in Kampala from 18th to 21st December 2024. The topic of mass registration for National ID planned by NIRA in 2025 was highlighted, and participants were informed that expired IDs have their validity extended by one year. The community will be informed when mass registration kicks off next year, and all will be encouraged to register themselves for the new generation IDs. Matters of land were raised, and information shared on key contact persons for every region who are to help coordinate land issues.
