All countries and organizations that were represented at the celebrations through the Diplomatic corps received recognition for various roles played in helping Uganda achieve its tremendous growth in its 62-year journey.
The Ambassador of Uganda to Burundi, H.E. Maj Gen (rtd) Matayo Kyaligonza, in his speech, took note that Uganda had raised brave warriors ready to make the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of their fellow Ugandans. He emphasized that as a country, Ugandans are proud of where they stand, and indeed, the people can be an example of how a country can transform from bad history to prosperity. The Ambassador therefore paid homage and applauded the leaders who fought for Uganda’s independence, and those who have carried the hopes and aspirations of the people of Uganda, especially H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Under the current mandate of leadership in the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of seventy-seven plus China, Uganda will use its good offices to champion the cause of the Third World and promote multilateralism and positive engagement in different areas, including International Peace and Security, Development Cooperation, Climate Change, Reforms of the United Nations, Fight Against Terrorism and Violent Extremism, Disarmament and Peaceful Resolution of International Conflicts.
