The Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Gen. Jeje Odongo was in Bujumbura, Burundi, to represent H.E. the President of Uganda at the function to commemorate 59 years of Burundi's Independence. The Minister was accompanied by the Ag. Director Regional and International Political Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Arthur Kafeero and other officials.

During the function, the Minister thanked H.E. Evariste Ndayishimiye for extending the invitation to H.E. President Yoweri K. Museveni to the occasion. He commended the warm relations between the people of Uganda and the people of Burundi and said the two countries will continue working together to strengthen this relationship in terms of trade, investment and promotion of regional peace and security for socio-economic transformation of their peoples and the region at large.

At the end of the function, the Minister visited the newly built Chancery of the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda and met with the Ambassador and Embassy staff. He commended the Ambassador, H.E. Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza, for his leadership in acquisition of land and overseeing the construction of the magnificent chancery building. The Minister said the new chancery is a symbol of the treasured relations between Uganda and Burundi for generations to come, and this will be a model for other Ugandan Embassies abroad which are in the process of acquiring new premises.

The visit to Bujumbura was Hon. Gen. Odongo's first trip outside Uganda since his appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in June 2021.
