Bilateral Relations

Uganda and Burundi continue to enjoy cordial relations. Burundi has been and continues to be a valuable and strategic friend and an ally within our region.

\r\n

There has been exchange of visits at both official and highest levels. State visits by President Museveni and President Nkurunziza have strengthened further bilateral relations and inspired confidence in the business community in the two countries.

\r\n

The two countries are members of the East African Community and by so being are postering regional integration. Both countries have deployed troops in Somalia as part of the AU peacekeeping force (AMISOM) trying to pacify Somalia.

\r\n

The bilateral framework for cooperation, the Joint Permanent Commission has ensured the relations between the two countries are upheld, enhanced and strengthened. A number of cooperation agreement and MOUs have been negotiated and concluded. These include in agriculture, transport, education, health, security, ICT, trade and investment.

\r\n

Trade relations between the countries continue to grow. Burundi is a major importer of Ugandan products.
